Toy Safety Tips 
In the Toy Safety section of ToyInfo.org, visitors can read TIA’s tips for shopping and safe play, as well as watch a video that provides viewers with a step-by-step, ‘in-store’ look at what to keep in mind when shopping for toys. This section also includes some general toy safety facts – including information about the strict U.S. toy safety standards currently in place to protect children. 

Age-by-Age Guidelines
TIA has an “Age-by-Age Guide” that helps shoppers select toys for various age groups, from infancy to pre-teen. Of particular importance are the included guidelines for picking toys for children younger than three: parents are advised to pay close attention to age labeling on toy packaging, and to always keep small parts of toys and other household items out of the hands of kids under three, as well as those who tend to mouth toys.  Additional resources are available in the Fun Play – Safe Play brochure on the site.

Toy Recalls
Although toy recalls are rare, ToyInfo.org maintains an up-to-date listing of products that have beenrecalled by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission so that families can make sure that the playthings in their home are safe.

Additionally, as part of TIA’s new information-sharing partnership with the Juvenile Products Manufacturers Association (JPMA), ToyInfo.org recently published an Expert Advice column authored by Julie Vallese, JPMA managing director of public and government affairs, which features advice on how parents and caregivers can ensure that a baby’s play area is safe.

“When your baby begins to crawl they will get into everything — especially the things that they aren’t supposed to!” Vallese writes. “One of the best ways to safe guard your home and address risk in your little one’s play area is to get on their level — get on the floor and crawl around. See everything from their perspective.”

Vallese offers over a dozen concrete tips to help assure safe play, from childproofing techniques to toy safety guidelines and beyond.
